On our last vsit to the vet.fivos was 19.7kg,he's very thin,i can feel all his bones, from hips to ribs, but he's healthy and eats exactly the amount of food he should,so probably it's ok that he's so thin.By the way he's 57cm heigth. |

The breed standard says weight between 17 - 27kg and height 45 - 55 cm. So yes Fivos is underweight for his height but if he's happy and fit that seems OK to me. You don't want him too heavy as it wouldn't be good for his hips. Some dogs are skinny no matter what, rather like people I think. They probably move more. Something I should do |

For sure you are rigth Pauline,i guess i'm so used to be carefull with all the other members of the family(they are all overweigth) that it seems strange that one is underweigth and may eat as much as he wants whenever i'm in the kitchen Lisa or my daugther like to came around and see if there's something to eat fivos also cames but just lays on my feet and never asks for food.Good for a change,at least i can give him treats without fears.
For his hips it's very good that he's ligth.Anyway,he's still very young, probably as he gets older his weigth may increase a bit.In any case i keep watch on his weigth,in case he loses,in fact he has the same weigth he had last spring.Lets see. |

Karli is 54 centimeters and is 21 kg. I still can feel her ribs and when she was younger (she is going to be 3 in april). she was skin and bones, but also healthy and she always ate all her food. when it gets really hot here in the summer she does not eat that much. i think she watches her girlie figure then. |

Sara is 18,5 kg and quite thin, but the vet says she's fine like that. I don't know how tall she is, how exactly do you measure it? |

You measure from top of shoulder (base of neck) to ground.
Daisy is 52 cm and weight 18.5 kg. |

Like humans every one is different and I do not believe that you can give a idea weight.
I have always found the best way to keep an eye on dog weight is to put your hands each side of the dog on his ribs with light pressure and move them backwards and forwards. You should be able to feel the outline of the ribs if you can not then they need to loose weight.
Under weight is harder to judge but they should have a good covering down the spine and hip area. |
