I have struggled hard with this decision and now Nesp'a is booked with my vet to be spayed on the 1 June. Nesp'a is 5 years old (6 years old in November) and has had one incident of a uterine infection. Fortunately, it cleared up quickly with treatment. My home life will not cope with managing another litter so rather than let Nesp'a continue having seasons and risk pyometra I have decided to have her spayed. I know it's the sensible decision for any bitch from which one is not going to breed but it draws a line for me for what I hoped my dogs could contribute to the introduction to the breed int the UK. It makes me sad. I know I can only do what I can do and hope sincerely that there are others that can help to increase the numbers of this lovely breed in the UK. |

I think you are doing the right thing with Nespa. I've nearly always had my bitches spayed at 7 years old but thought I could get away with Witchy (Samoyed) but of course she suffered with a Pyo by the time she was 10. Floosie is almost 9 years and I have also put off hold having her spayed. She is now going into female problems too.
I would like to have a litter from Daisy after she is three years old (If her hips are okay) but with the economic climate at the moment would I be able to find suitable homes I would like to see some more Serra's in the UK and of course get them onto the Kennel Club Import Registar. |

Thanks Gina for the encouragement. It's always an issue finding good homes. I still get enquiries and have a list of names I have agreed to keep up-dating. I would pass them on to another breeder as I did to Caroline and Micky. |

Nesp'a is doing OK, thank you. The operation went well. She is wearing a buster collar today so that she can't lick herself. She slept until this morning and has been out in the garden today, blundering about, bless her. She's following me around where she can. She had chicken and rice for breakfast as she wasn't interested in food last night. She has her stitches out on Friday 11 June. I am glad it's over and now look forward to her getting back to normal. I can't say the other two dogs are very empathetic. Although, they are giving her a wide berth as they aren't sure about the collar either. |

'Dear All, Look at what I have had to put up with for the past 10 days What a blow to my dignity wearing a bucket on my head. It's not been easy but I have been so good. Everything went very smoothly and the operation healed perfectly. Today, I had my stitches out and now I am back on great form My ma says I have been brilliant - so what's new? Love, Nespa' |

I agree, Nespa is so lovely she manages to make it look more like a bonnet than a bucket. But I've no doubt everyone in the house is relieved that it's off, they can be quite lethal! |
