Daisy has just come back from her 1st show (companion show at Elham, Canterbury, Kent Uk). She caused quite a stir, there were several top alround judges who showed a lot of inteest and asked many questions.
Amongst the exibitors they all said how pretty she was, Daisy would not rest untill after the showing was over, see photo. she was pulled out in the last 8 of 18 puppies and showed very well.

Ps photos are in our personal albumn do not know how to put them in here !!! |

This is excellent news. The breed will benefit from good publicity such as this. I get a steady trickle of enquiries and have had one or two more people contact me recently with questions about the serra. Thanks for letting us know what Daisy is up to and the photos are great. |

Just to let you know Daisy went to her 2nd K/C Companion Show yesterday. Shown in Pedigree Puppy (11) entries and was placed 5th (VHC - Very highly Commended). She Also went into the Novelty Classes with Spud - OES and won 3rd in Odd Brace! (Spud got 2nd in Working/Pastoral).
The judge on the day for the pedigree classes said he knew the breed (as he judges Pastoral breeds abroad). So we were very pleased with Daisy's placing.
Does this make her the first in the Uk to get a placing?
See her photo after the show......................................worn out at last!
(So were we)!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Just to let you know Daisy went to another Companion Show yesterday (Her 5th) at Nurstead, Meopham - Annual Garden Party! Held in Kent. So her record is 2 VHC's and now 2nd place + 2 thrown outs!
She got a 2nd place in AV Puppy under judge Ros Cramphorn - Yelxba. Well attended class. We were very pleased with this result.
The judge said she was not sure what breed she was but Daisy had wonderful confirmation and very good movement and stood out for her construction.
We had lots of enquires about the breed. So this is wonder PR.
It was a very hot day and lots of noise for Daisy to cope with. Including a Fairground organ playing all afternoon along side the ring. She coped very well.
Will post photo's on our photo album. |

Peter is really out to get that illusive 1st prize and Best Puppy In Show at a Companion Show. Then the Champagne will be on us and Daisy of course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't count on it though!
We will keep trying.
p.s. Have you seen Daisy's scary photo on our photo album? It could put the judges off. |

Daisy is absolutely gorgeous I do love my Sara's coat, rough and coarse and not very long, therefore very easy to mantain, but definitely not as beautifull as Daisy's. She's looks perfect. |

We are hoping that Daisy will get a harsher coat as she grows. We think her coat is mainly soft puppy coat which matts up very quickly, that's what we are hoping! We are learning all the time.
It is so strange to be finding black hair all over the place instead of my Samoyeds white fur and the Old English's white coarse and grey coat.
Love to have Sara's coarser coat which must be more manageable. Time will tell. |

Another weekend!
Local show - Fun Dog Show just 5 minutes away. Daisy got a 3rd place. This is still really good. Also took our old Samoyed Witchy - aged 12 she won Best Veteran In Show! We only went to show Daisy! Mayor of Ashford waved to the girls and so did local MP!
Sunday: -
Stone Fete - at Dartford - The noise was horrendous. Rock Bands etc., We walked Daisy past all this but she really is getting a bit touchy at the moment. She was with our Old English Boys - Spud & Great Uncle Cedric! Who never takes any notice of anything. It was good practice for a Serra.
But Daisy played up in the AV Puppy Class - but she did get a Special Rosette. Spud won AV Pastoral and Great Uncle Cedric aged 11 won Best Veteran. Again We only took Daisy for practice. We hope she enjoyed watching the boys showing her how things should be done! She loves going out in the car. Which is a joy.
Walking around with Daisy at the show today a girl came up and said her mother had Briards and she knew about the Serra's - so this is also good news. The breed was recognised. As usual Daisy had lots of fuss and was very popular with everyone. |

Just to let you know DAISY MADE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She went BEST PUPPY IN SHOW at a Companion Show held on the Village Green Matfield, Kent (Tunbridge Wells) yesterday. The show was held with the annual village Fete. Lots of noises, Jazz Bands etc., It was very crowded.
Daisy was admired by lots of people even the Mayor of Tunbridge Wells. So she got plenty of attention.
To top it all SPUD our Old English Sheepdog went BEST IN SHOW!
So we came home with lots goodies. Even a bottle of wine won on the Tombola.
Sorry to say we forgot to take our camera. |

Thanks Joanna - Maybe buy that lottery ticket this week.
Spud very tired today and it's his 5th birthday which we have just celebrated with birthday cake after lunch! All of our dogs like cake. No good for them but a must have goody.
Daisy full of beans. So this morning went off to a local dog training Companion Show which started at 10. a.m. Help - this is Sunday after all!
Daisy managed to get a 2nd in a very good class of over 20 pedigree puppies.
We then tried the Agility Fun Course. Well Peter did. Daisy jumped over the jumps and then the dreaded tunnel - no way was she going to go through. Until they shortened the tunnel and with a tempting piece of food at the end, off she went. Flattened Peter and left him trying to grab her lead. Good job there was no time limit for finishing the course.
We will now have a rest for a couple of weeks hopefully. Well, until the next show comes up
Companion Shows are far more fun than the Championship Dog Shows which are so serious. |

Just to let you know we have not given up on Companion Shows! The past month has been very hectic for us (work wise). So this weekend (Bank Holiday) we have taken Daisy to two Companion Shows. She has not been out for 4 weeks - help! She has been very naughty at home - chewing up the kitchen - playing up our Dog sitter - who says she is the dog from "Hell"! So we knew we would have a hard task.
The first show yesterday - held in a lovely private garden in aid of the English Springer Spaniel Welfare. Daisy was very shy when she arrived but after walking her round the show and with the help of lots of people making a fuss of her She really got into her stride. In the AV Puppy class a lovely Briard came into the ring and I said to Peter he must tell the judge Daisy was not a Briard - As at last show she was compared to another Briard and lost out for being a poor speicmen! However, Daisy did make the final cut the Briard won Best Puppy and Daisy got a Very Highly Commended (5th). So we were very pleased with the result.
Today - Guide Dogs for the Blind - Ashford - held at a lovely Windmill Site. Daisy did not like the sound of the Windmill - She really played up. But did get a 3rd placing. So she is still in the cards! Large class of any variety dogs - so this is no disgrace.
Just a few shows left now for this season. Getting Daisy out and socialized is very important at this stage of her life. |

I agree Joanna - although neither of us is living with Daisy Serras are an interesting breed. They have a strong sense of self and independence but with an interesting life: things to think about and things to do they are amazing. Gina and Peter are so right about socialising her and in such situations too Daisy will be really thinking hard too. |

Thanks Pauline re : Socializing .
We have found that Daisy has no fear of other dogs. She thinks that all dogs are friendly. Which puts us more on our guard than usual when out and about. She is also picking up bad habits from our Samoyed's. Who really are naughty and noisy. So she might not be all Serra now. She loves the Old English and hopefully will be as faithful as them in the years to come which we are sure she will be.
We hope to take her to the Open Shows at Maidstone during the winter months when we show our Samoyed veteran and Spud the OES. Of course she will be entered (Not for competition) and hopefully this will teach her how to behave in the company of other dogs and people. It will all give her lots to think about and maybe tire her out |

Back to the Companion Shows after Daisy's first season........Poor girl it really has effected her - hopefully for the best though.
Well it was a lovely autumn day. So hot and sunny! Kent countryside at it's very best.
Daisy got 2nd in Any Variety Pedigree Puppy (6 - 12 months) a very large class under a Championship Show Pastoral Judge (who has judged abroad).
She also got 2nd in Prettiest Bitch.(different judge) ..................We always knew she had appeal (Will post photo's later).
This really is the last of the Summer/Autumn shows so Daisy will not have many outings now until next Spring.
Today's show was organized by a Dog Training Club and we have found a really good trainer. So hopefully will attend classes during the winter months. |

Just to let you know that Daisy Won Best Puppy in Show at the PDSA Companion show held at Bromley, Kent today at 11 months old.
Judge was Mrs Dee Howes (Kandelite). See photo on general photos.
Very pleased with Daisy today as everyone was making a fuss of our Old English Sheepdog - Spud. Daisy pushed him away and came forward for more fuss |

Hi Nicola,
There is just one photo of Daisy and Peter plus the judge who gladly posed for the photo. Daisy is not in show stance. Photo taken after judging and can be found on general photos. I'm trying to keep her showing very relaxed. She is still attracting attention which is good and she is growing in confidence.
Daisy loves her days out. |

Just come back from Gravesend & Medway Towns C/S Open show held at Maidstone, Kent.
Daisy of course was entered (Not for Competion). She enjoyed her day. I gave her some practice in the show rings before the show started. She really wanted to get in there. Lots of fuss. She hated the loudspeakers. But this is really good for her.
I took Floosie my 8 year old Samoyed today (very old for the show ring)now back in coat. She is a Champion. But she still won Best AVNSC Pastoral. Daisy watched I did not want to go forward for Best In Show so decided to carry on with the Veteran Class stakes and got 3rd and 3rd in Champion Stakes. Prize money £6.00 whoopee!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Daisy is really tired tonight but I know she enjoyed her day. Shy at the beginning but when she had encountered people then knew her name she was all over them.
Looking forward now for the Companion Shows in 2010. When will the Kennel Club recognize this lovely breed |

We had a bit of a health scare with Daisy in the past week. She came in from the garden coughing and choking. She was not ill ill but I was very concerned. At bedtime we gave her some cough syrup to calm down the cough. Having in mind the dreaded Kennel Cough. During the night she coughed and coughed and coughed. I got up around 3.30 p.m. Could not believe what she had been coughing up. When it got to large amounts of blood I rang my Vet. Help! I've never ever rang in the middle of the night. She said to bring her into the surgery first thing in the morning and not to worry. I slept with Daisy for the rest of the night. My Vet seemed to think that Daisy had swallowed something, perhaps seeds from the garden. She gave her two injections and some calming down tablets for the cough. Daisy still continued to cough and we went back the next day for another check-up. Unfortunately a locum Vet was on and she recommened that Daisy went to a specialist clinic for endoscopy treatment. An appointment was made and the clinic rang me to confirm. I asked for an estimate for the treatment and was told between £600 - £900 ............................... Peter was not very happy and so we decided as we had only seen the locum Vet we should wait and continue the treatment of anti-biotics. My own Vet rang over the weekend to see how Daisy was getting on and I'm pleased to report that she is much better. Yesterday we went back to our Vet and she was very happy. Daisy is on another course of anti-biotics Her cough has now ceased and hopefully she will be back to normal by the end of the week. Fingers crossed
To end on a happier note: My Vet really likes Daisy - but still thinks she is a Portugese Water Dog (It's the only one that will come up on her computer directory for breeds)! But as we left she gave Daisy a cuddle saying you are a monkey. I had not the heart to tell her that is what the Serra's nick name is |

Oh my gosh how dreadful. It must have been so very alarming. I am relieved to know Daisy is now on the mend. Very curious as to what it was. There's no posibility of any one nearby putting down pest poison? Our best wishes to you all and lots of calming strokes to Daisy. |
